UKPA Roundtable

Roundtable: Leveraging PropTech for Digitised Planning

14th September 2021

9am - 10:30am

Description

With over 450,000 planning applications a year, the planning system needs updating to keep up with demand, particularly if the UK is to meet its targets of 300,000 extra houses a year to combat the housing crisis. The Government’s 2020 White Paper ‘Planning For the Future’ sets out the aim of digitising the planning system using open data as a live evidence base on which to make decisions. The aim is to create an online system that makes the process more accessible, interactive, faster, more efficient and easier to use for communities.

The purpose of this roundtable is to assess recent progressions and identify how we can collaborate across the industry to drive the digital transformation of the planning process. The roundtable will bring together professionals from Local Authorities, Property Technology companies providing solutions to support digital planning reforms, and representatives from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). The discussion will be focused on exploring the role of the PropTech community within the planning reforms, how we can improve engagement between private sector and public sector to speed up digital transformation, and barriers to implementing digital technology solutions.
